RISON – The Cleveland County Clerk’s Office confirmed Tuesday afternoon that enough signatures were turned in this week to hold a recall election of Kingsland Mayor Tim McClellan in November.
County Clerk Sharon Gray said she ran a check Tuesday afternoon of the registered voters who signed the petition and verified that there were enough signatures to meet the state’s requirement for a recall election.
The recall will be held during the general election on Nov. 6.
McClellan said in a telephone interview Wednesday morning that he really didn’t have any official comment until he spoke to City Attorney Tom Wynne.
McClellan said he knew “the same crew” that has been coming to the city council meetings was up to something, but he did not know all the details. “I’ve heard bits and pieces,” he said.
The mayor said he really hadn’t had time to think about it considering he had other urgent city business to tend to like the ongoing water project.
