FAST WORK – This new shot of Rison City Hall shows the fast work accomplished since work on the rebuilt began in April. Above is a shot taken Tuesday, Sept. 4, of the newly completed Rison City Hall. The construction crews used only the existing slab and steel framework in the rebuild. Even some of the steel beams in the frame had to be replaced after the heat from the fire warped them. While the construction was going on, city hall moved its office to a vacant house/office located a short distance away. Rickey Fore volunteered to let the city use the building at no charge.

RISON – The rebuilt Rison City Hall should be up and running by Thursday, Mayor Vernon Dollar announced this week.

Dollar joined other city workers Tuesday as they began moving their belongings from the temporary quarters located a short distance away to the newly refurbished city hall complex. Though the phone system still needed to be installed, the mayor said he expects city hall to officially open for business this Thursday, Sept. 6.

In addition, Dollar said next Tuesday’s regular monthly meeting of the Rison City Council will be the first time for the city’s governing body to meet at city hall since it was destroyed by an arson fire on April 9.

The city council has been meeting in the fellowship hall of Rison Baptist Church will the rebuild was going on. The next city council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11.

The rebuild was finished about a month-and-a-half ahead of schedule. Failla Disaster Services of Pine Bluff originally projected the building to be finished by mid-October but instead wrapped up the project this week.

“They just absolutely did a marvelous job by getting things done for us,” Dollar said about Failla.
