RISON – Vincent Henderson of New Edinburg has been certified as the new veterans services officer for Cleveland County, County Judge Gary Spears announced this week.

Henderson, who has been working at the Cleveland County Veterans Services office since October, recently completed his training to become a certified veterans service officer through the Arkansas Department of Veterans Affairs.

According to the latest figures available from 2012, Henderson said there were 796 veterans in Cleveland County at last county who were receiving $1,446,658 in benefits.

A native of Las Vegas, Henderson moved to New Edinburg in the 1980s. He served in the U.S. Army for 13 years, being assigned to the front lines in Baghdad during Operation Desert Storm.

Henderson said his duties with the Cleveland County Veterans Services Office are to help veterans with any services they are entitled to. He said his primary mission is to expedite the process so veterans can begin receiving benefits sooner.
