DONALDSON – Rison’s Chris Lawson and Malik Chavis combined for 40 points but it wasn’t enough to overcome Glen Rose as the Beavers pulled out a 71-60 victory over the Wildcats in the third-place game Saturday of the Herb Russell Holiday Hoops Classic at Ouachita High School.
Chavis kept Rison in the game early as he scored 11 of his 18 points in the first half.
Lawson, meanwhile, got hot in the second half, hitting three 3-pointers to score 15 of his team-high 22 points over the final two quarters.
Rison fell to 1-5 overall with the loss.
Woodlawn 84, Rison 75
Malik Chavis scored eight points in the first quarter to help the Rison Wildcats open up an 18-17 lead over the Woodlawn Bears after the first quarter before eventually fading at the free throw line down the stretch in an 84-75 setback in the semifinals of the Herb Russell Holiday Hoops Classic last Friday at Ouachita High School.
Woodlawn grabbed a five-point lead at the half when Cole Reynolds was fouled on a half court shot attempt at the end of the second quarter. He sank all three free throws to give the Bears a 39-34 lead at the break.
