WOODLAWN – It wasn’t until Macy Ratliff’s half court shot at the final buzzer was off the mark that the Woodlawn Lady Bears could breath a sigh of relief as they survived a furious fourth-quarter rally by the Rison Lady Wildcats to hold on for a 37-34 win Monday night at the Woodlawn Gym.
Woodlawn seemed to have the game well in hand as they took 31-16 lead in the final period.
But that’s about the time that the Lady ‘Cats seemed to find another gear as they reeled off nine unanswered points to start the quarter, and put the pressure on the Lady Bears down the stretch.
Te’Lynn Humphrey got it started for Rison with a basket and Sydney Keaton followed with a steal and layup. She was fouled on the play, and then made the free throw to make it 31-21. Moments later, Keaton came up with another steal and layup to make it 31-23. Ashley Roshell then followed with another bucket and suddenly the lead was down to just six, 31-25.
Woodlawn answered with a free throw from Kaylee Hinson and a 3-pointer by Olivia Gavin to push it back to a double-digit lead at 35-25.
But Rison refused to go away
