Early Basketball Team

Pictured above is the 1938-1939 Rison Junior High basketball team.  Members of the team are:  Ted Pennington (with ball); second row, left to right, Coach Jim Ryburn, Charles Frye, Dale Holderfield, Bill Harrison, J.E. Shelby, "Hop" Pennington; third row, "Tinker" Savis, Porter Montgomery, Leonard Randel.

1933 Wildcats

Shown above are members of the Rison High Wildcats football team from 1933, when games were on the field just east of town off Hwy. 133.  Mrs. H.R. Garner of Rison, who submitted the photo, identified some of the players, as follows, front row, Russell May, unidentified; second row, C.W. (Nookie) Baldwin, unidentified, Buck Lain, Worthen Bell, Wallace England, W.A. (Hook) Rogers, unidentified, Joe McDonald, Sam Hankins, ____ Johnson, ____ Holderfield.

Early Baptism in Kedron

Shown above is Brother Ed Ratliff (right) baptizing in the John Dial Pond near Kedron in Cleveland County in the late 1920s or early 1930s.  Pond or river baptisms are virtually a thing of the past as many churches now have their own baptistry.
