Lady ‘Cats Fall to Dewitt, Beat Quitman

DEWITT - The DeWitt Lady Dragons wrapped up the 8-3A conference championship Tuesday by getting past the Rison Lady Wildcats, 6-3, in a league game Tuesday at DeWitt.

The loss dropped Rison to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Lady ‘Cats are currently third in the conference standings, a game behind second-place McGehee that sits at 5-2.

Rison still has a shot at second in the conference since the Lady ‘Cats and Lady Owls are scheduled to meet Friday at Lady Wildcat Field. McGehee won the first meeting, 12-6, back on April 8. Elissa Summar walked to start the inning before a grounder gave Rison its first out. Mackenzie King then lined into right for a double, scoring Summar. King eventually scored on Layne Potter’s grounder before the inning ended on a tag-out.

The Lady Dragons scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second with two out.

After a lead-off single, the next two batters were retired. A hit batter followed by two singles plated three runs to make it 5-2 DeWitt.

Rhagen Price’s RBI single in the third closed it to 5-3.

DeWitt’s final run came off a wild pitch in the fifth.

Potter, Hyatt, Price and King accounted for Rison’s four hits in the game.
