Lady ‘Cats Fall to Dewitt, Beat Quitman

DEWITT - The DeWitt Lady Dragons wrapped up the 8-3A conference championship Tuesday by getting past the Rison Lady Wildcats, 6-3, in a league game Tuesday at DeWitt.The loss dropped Rison to 7-8 overall and 4-3 in league play. The Lady ‘Cats are currently third in the conference standings, a game behind second-place McGehee that sits at 5-2.Rison still has a shot at second in the conference since the Lady ‘Cats and Lady Owls are scheduled to meet Friday at Lady Wildcat Field. McGehee won the first meeting, 12-6, back on April 8. Rison would need to win by 7 to earn the tie-breaker and earn the no. 2 seed for the Class 3A Region 4 Tournament next week at Ashdown.Tuesday’s game at DeWitt came down to a three-run second inning by the Lady Dragons.DeWitt scored two runs off a couple of errors in the bottom of the first before the Lady ‘Cats answered with two runs in the top of the second.Elissa Summar walked to start the inning before a grounder gave Rison its first out. Mackenzie King then lined into right for a double, scoring Summar. King eventually scored on Layne Potter’s grounder before the inning ended on a tag-out.The Lady Dragons scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the second with two out. After a lead-off single, the next two batters were retired.
