Rison Sports Hall of Fame Releases First Nominees

RISON - The Rison Booster Club has announced its first group of 10 nominees for the newly organized Rison High School Sports Hall of Fame.The final group of nominees was selected by the Rison Sports Hall of Fame executive committee, which consists of Willie Bea Williams-Brandon, Scotty Holderfield, John Phillips and Stan Sadler.The Rison Sports Hall of Fame will recognize athletes, coaches, teams and contributors to athletics at Rison High School.No more than two athletes from the same sport and the same decade can be considered among the group of 10 finalists. Each class of inductees can consist of six individuals, or four individuals and one team.Those selected into the inaugural class of the Rison Sports Hall of Fame will be determined by a vote of the Rison Booster Club membership, said booster club president Dustin Prescott and Hall of Fame coordinator Brian Phillips.While paper ballots will be available, organizers are encouraging people to vote online. A link to the online voting platform will be available on the Rison Booster Club Facebook page.Brian Phillips said each $50 booster membership covers a couple, and each person can cast separate votes for the Hall of Fame.Below is a biography on each of the nominees. The nominations will be divided by decades:1950sHavis Hyatt - (Athlete) Hyatt was an All-State performer in both football and basketball for the Wildcats, and helped lead the Rison basketball team to back-to-back conference championships in 1956 and 1957. In his senior season, Hyatt scored 35 points for the Wildcats in their state tournament game. He also played basketball on the collegiate level for the Henderson State Reddies.
