CCSB Approves E-Rate Consultation Contract

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board voted to enter into a consulting agreement with Education Innovations in regards to spending the district's E-Rate funds, Superintendent Davy King said.E-Rate is a federally-funded program administered through the FCC that makes telecommunications and information services more affordable for schools and libraries. With funding from the Universal Service Fund, E-Rate provides discounts for telecommunications, Internet access, and internal connections to eligible schools and libraries.King said the district has about $75,000 to spend on E-Rate expenses this year.That was one of the issues addressed on what King called a short agenda for Monday night's regular monthly school board meeting.The board also learned that Scott Systems, an air conditioning and heating business in Pine Bluff, has donated a heating unit for the baseball/softball batting facility. King said John Varnell helped arrange the donation. In addition, King said Ryan Saunders, who is an air conditioning and heating technician, is donating the labor to install the unit, which means there will be no cost to the school district.In the monthly academic report, Rison Elementary academic coaches Sassy Socia, Tracy Stuckey and Jansen Power informed the board that students are currently undergoing interim assessment testing in anticipation of the Arkansas Teaching, Learning & Assessment System (ATLAS) testing later this spring semester.These interim assessment tests will allow teachers to see where each student stands academically in preparation for the upcoming ATLAS test this spring semester.
