RISON - The Cleveland County Quorum Court approved a recommendation from the Pay Committee to provide pay changes for some positions, and also decided to buy a new road grader rather than lease one.
Both of those issues and others were addressed during the quo‐rum court’s regular monthly meeting Monday night at the courthouse.
Justice of the Peace Dwayne Ashcraft, who chaired the quo‐rum court’s Pay Committee, told the court that after listening to different proposals offered by county officials, the committee recommended the following pay changes be included in the 2023 county budget:
• Change the pay schedule for both the solid waste manager and the district court chief clerk
• Change the pay schedule for the road foreman
• Create an assistant road foreman position
• Change the pay schedule for the captain in the sheriff’s department.
• Create a lieutenant position in the sheriff’s department.
“If these changes can be incorporated into an affordable budget, the committee would recommend these changes to the quorum court for approval,” Ashcraft told the court.
The committee, which included Justices Ashcraft, Owen Rushing, Don Triplett, Ricky Neal and Donnie Herring, met on Oct. 17 to discuss the payroll changes.
The full court approved the committee’s recommendation with no opposition. The quorum court is scheduled to meet with county officials later this month for the annual budget meeting. The court will likely vote on the 2023 budget during its December meeting.
Also during Monday’s meeting, County Judge Melody Spears informed the quorum court that a lease agreement for one of the county’s four road graders will expire Nov. 30, and she presented the board with two
