Jr. 'Cats Romp Past Barton; End Season With 6-2 Record

BARTON - Rison assumed a three-touchdown lead before Barton had its first offensive snap of the game, as the Junior Wildcats romped to a 46-16 victory over the Junior Bears in a 63A Conference meeting at Frank McClellan Field Thursday night of last week. It was the season finale for Rison, as the Junior 'Cats finished with an overall record of 6-2 and 4-1 in the conference. The Wildcats' defeats came at the hands of Stuttgart and Fordyce. Victories were over Bismarck and England in non-conference play, and Drew Central, Camden Harmony Grove, Lake Village and Barton in 6-3A action. Against Barton last Thursday night, Rison scored on its opening possession when quarterback Kyson Walker ran 16 yards for a touchdown. On a 2-point conversion try, Walker completed a pass to Spencer Towery, and it was 8-0. After Walker covered an onsides kick, executed by David Lian, the Wildcats scored again on a 4-yard TD plunge by Kyson Fletcher, with Towery running across a 2-point conversion to make it 16-0. Still in the first quarter following their second touchdown, the Wildcats' Ethan Saeler covered another onsides kick by Lian that led to a Rison TD. On the scoring play, Walker and Towery teamed up on a 20yard pass completion for the TD, with Fletcher tacking on a 2-point conversion that made it 24-0 before the end of the opening period. In the second quarter, Fletcher's 1-yard touchdown plunge increased Rison's lead to 30-0. Barton got on the scoreboard on a 70-yard pass play and 2-point conversion that made it 30-8. Barton covered an onsides kick, but Rison's defense forced a three-and-out to get the ball back. Moments later, Fletcher, on a 12-yard run, notched his third TD of the game, and Saeler, in at quarterback, ran across for a 2-point conversion to send Rison's advantage to 388.
