Kingsland Explosion Blamed on Gas Leak

RISON - A gas leak outside a house in Kingsland is believed to have been the cause of an explosion that did significant damage to the structure.The Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department said firefighters were dispatched at 10:50 p.m. last Tuesday, Aug. 6, to respond to an explosion at the home of Tim Kea, 6480 Hwy. 79 in Kingsland. The fire department reported that Kea was not injured in the explosion.Upon arrival, firefighters from the Kingsland and New Edinburgh Fire Departments were able to quickly extinguish a fire that was started by the explosion in the kitchen and living room area.KVFD said the house sustained heavy damage with one wall being completely blown out while several shingles were also blown off. They noted that about 70 percent of the ceiling inside the house had collapsed as well.The cause of the fire was determined to be an outside gas leak near the house. As to what ignited the explosion, KVFD said the investigator believed it was related to an electrical issue. They noted that the explosion occurred when Kea turned on a light switch at the other end of the house.The Kingsland Fire Department wished to thank the New Edinburg Fire Department and Cleveland County Sheriffs Department for their assistance, as well as the others who helped....
