Meyer To Become Woodlawn Elementary Principal July 1

WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn School Board approved hiring Zach Meyer, who has been serving as the assistant principal for both the high school and elementary this year, to be the Woodlawn Elementary principal effective July 1 with the start of the 2025-26 school year.Meyer will replace Jeff Wylie, the former Woodlawn High School principal who agreed last July to serve as the interim elementary principal following the resignation of former elementary principal Heather Cox last summer. Superintendent Kevin Hancock said Wylie agreed to fill the position to give the district time to find a permanent replacement. Wylie's contract was only for the fall semester of the 2024-25 school year, but he chose to stay on for the spring semester as well.A 2009 graduate of Woodlawn High School, Meyer has been serving as the head football coach of the Bears for the past three seasons. Superintendent Kevin Hancock said Meyer will be stepping down as the head football coach, and the district will begin the search for a new coach soon.The decision to hire Meyer was made after the school board met in executive session Monday night during its regular monthly meeting.In addition to naming Meyer as the new elementary principal, the board also approved extending a new contract to Woodlawn High School Principal T.J. Hill for the 2025-26 school year, and accepted the resignation/retirement of cafeteria worker Diane Mitcham at the end of the school year....
