Staff Illnesses Prompt AMI Days for CCSD

RISON - The Cleveland County School District announced Wednesday morning that it will be dismissing on-campus classes for Thursday and Friday, Dec. 8-9, and going to Alternative Means of Instruction (AMI) for those two days due to widespread illness among staff and students. After meeting with Rison Elementary Principal Letitia Johnson and Rison High School Principal Davy King, Superintendent Craig Dupuy said Wednesday morning he felt it was best to dismiss on-campus instruction both of those days due to staff shortages and a widespread outbreak among students. On Tuesday, there were a total of 18 teachers who were out and a total of 106 students. Rison Elementary had reported 73 students and nine teachers out while Rison High School reported 33 students and nine teachers out. That trend continued on Wednesday as 12 teachers and 35 students out at the high school, and nine teachers and 79 students out at the elementary. Dupuy said there were another three teachers at the elementary who needed to leave as well. The illnesses extended to the Head Start program as well, with six instructors and 35 students out on Wednesday. Dupuy said the Head Start program at Rison and Kingsland will be closed while the Woodlawn campus will remain open. ...
