RISON - The Woodlawn School District presented its annual Report to the Public last Tuesday night, Oct. 15, in the Woodlawn School cafeteria. The report included presentations by Superintendent Dr. Kevin Hancock, High School Principal T.J. Hill and Interim Elementary Principal Jeff Wylie.The Report to the Public reviews achievements from the last school year as well as a look ahead to the current school year.Here is a breakdown of each report.District Overview Hancock reported that the school district currently has an enrollment of 550 students: 289 in the elementary (grades kindergarten through 6th) and 261 in the high school (grades 7th through 12th).There are 21 certified staff members in the elementary with an average of 11.29 years of teaching experience while there are 19 certified staff in the high school with an average of 14.1 years of experience. The average teacher salary in both schools is $54,620 per year.Woodlawn averages spending $10,682.67 per student. The district's average daily attendance is 92 percent. Districtwide, there are 79 staff members: 51 certified staff and 28 classified (office workers, maintenance staff, etc.)Among the student body, 63 percent of students in the elementary school and 52 percent in the high school are eligible for free and reduced lunch.Hancock pointed out that some of the projects that have been completed over the past year includes the new scoreboard at the football field and water cleaning stations in addition to the routine maintenance of the campus. He also noted that the district had an auction to sale off unused equipment and other items.Woodlawn, according to Hancock, is using a federal mitigation grant to make improvements to the elementary dropoff/pick-up drive that goes around the football field and baseball/softball complex.
