Young Establishes Corner Marker For Three Counties Outside Pansy

Ever wonder where the exact boundaries are between counties? Thanks to Bracy Young of the Rye community, there is now a marker established that shows exactly where Cleveland, Drew and Lincoln counties meet in an area just southeast of the Pansy community.On May 11, Young, a professional land surveyor, placed a survey monument at the exact location of where the three counties meet through the Corner Restoration Program offered through the Arkansas Division of Land Surveys Monument. Program Coordinator Steven Martin was among those on hand overseeing the placement of the corner monument. The original corner marker had been obliterated several years (continued from page 1) ago.The Corner Restoration Program is designed to restore and maintain the official land survey monuments of Arkansas. Under this program, the agency provides the “Certified Corner” monument and signage used to mark these locations.Cleveland County resident Charles Woolley was also there to witness the new corner being set. In 1985, Woolley took notes on the original monument and was able to assist in locating witness bearings to the newest monument. According to Woolley’s notes, Mr. N. Righter (surveyor) set the original corner on or near the date of Jan. 22, 1827.Young, Martin and Woolley, are all licensed professional surveyors.The metal monument, which is essentially a long metal tube, was driven into the ground at the corner site. Attached to the top of the tube is a round piece of metal signifying the coordinates and the fact that it is a marker of the Arkansas State Land Survey Department....
