RISON - Travis “Joey” Posey, 45, of New Edinburg, who was arrested for the June 21 mass shooting at a Fordyce grocery store that killed four people, is facing four counts of capital murder and 11 counts of attempted capital murder after fomial charges were filed against him last week.Thirteenth Judicial District Prosecutor Jeffrey Rogers filed the charges on July 29 in Dallas County Circuit Court in Fordyce. Circuit Judge Spencer Singleton will preside over the case.Col. Mike Hagar, director of the Arkansas State Police, reported that Posey was taken into custody after being wounded in a gunfight with law enforcement officers following a mass shooting in the parking lot of the Mad Butcher grocery store at 920 West 4th Street in Fordyce.In addition to the four who were killed, State Police reported 15 people were injured from gunfire: 12 civilians, two police officers and the suspect.The four capital murder charges were for the deaths of Ellen Shrum, 81, of Fordyce; Callie Weems, 23, of Kingsland; Roy Sturgis, 50, of Kingsland; and Shirley Taylor, 62, of Fordyce.Capital murder is a Class Y felony punishable by life imprisonment without parole or the death penalty.The 11 attempted capital murder charges are for those injured in the shooting. Attempted capital murder is also a Class Y felony punishable by no less than 10 nor more than 40 years in prison; or life imprisonment.The attempted capital murder charges were filed on behalf of James Ryan Johnson, Sharon Rose Brazil, Thomas Brazil, Brittney Sullivent, Demaria Cooper, Kasey Harbour, Latoya Allen, Silas Compton, Jacqueline Curb, Ronald Clayton and Judy Clayton.Rogers filed in the charges in Dallas County Circuit Court at Fordyce. Posey pleaded not guilty in his first court appearance on June 25 at the Ouachita County Detention Facility in Camden, where he is being held without bond.
