Big Start Lifts Rison Win at McGehee

McGEHEE - A six-run first inning and a three-hitter from Noah Matheson propeled the Rison Wildcats to an 11-1 win over the McGehee Owls in an 83A matchup Tuesday afternoon at McGehee.Rison moved to 5-0 in conference play and 8-3 overall with the victory.The 'Cats took control right of the gate as Lawson Kidd singled and Matheson drew a walk to put the first two batters aboard. Andrew Couture followed with a double to score one run, and after Ayden Laws walked, the bases were full with no one out.James Jacobs then delivered a hit into center scoring two runs, and Mason Weaver then reached on an error after his bunt to bring another run across to make it 4-0.Brayden Terry's ground out drove in another run and Thomas Wilson then scored on a dropped third strike to make it 6-0.The Owls loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first before scratching out what would be McGehee's only run of the game on a fielder's choice. A grounder ended the threat.Rison did not score again until the fourth when Jacobs had an RBI single to make it 7-1.The 'Cats added a couple of runs in the fifth when Matheson's fly to center allowed Wilson and Aaron Tilley to score.Rison added its final two runs off errors in the sixth and seventh.Matheson had his best performance on the mound since taking some time off to deal with a nagging injury. He gave up just three hits and one walk while striking out eight in getting the complete-game victory.Matheson, Couture and Jacobs all finished with two hits apiece with Jacobs collecting three RBIs and Matheson one. Kidd, and Tilley also had hits....
