WOODLAWN - Lillie Faye McWhorter’s two-run double in the bottom of the fourth invoked the 10-run rule as the Woodlawn Lady Bears shutout the Magnet Cove Lady Panthers, 15-0, to win the Class 2A Region 4 championship Saturday at Lady Bear Field.Woodlawn, 30-4, advances to the Class 2A State Tournament this week as the no. 1 seed from Region 4. The Lady Bears will meet the McCrory Lady Jaguars, 14-13, the no. 4 seed from Region 3, at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Forrest City Sports Complex.Should the Lady Bears win, they would play the Acorn-Izard County winner at 12:30 p.m. Friday at Palestine-Wheatley High School.The Region 4 Tournament turned into a second version of the 8-2A District Tournament after all four teams eliminated their 7-2A opponents in the first round of the regional. Woodlawn scored seven runs with two out in the bottom of the first to quickly build a comfortable lead over Magnet Cove in the championship game.After the first two Lady Bears were retired to start the bottom of the first, Kendall Tooke followed with a solo homerun for a quick 1-0 lead. McWhorter was then hit by a pitch, and Macy Harrison and Lacy Rauls drew walks to load the bases. Karsyn Chastain then dropped a single into right to score courtesy runners Chloe Place and Jailyn Wright, and Bay Aud followed with another single to bring Rauls and Chastain home. Maeley Simmons was then hit by a pitch, and Lily White had a double that allowed Aud to beat the throw home to make it 6-0. Kathryn Dixon then singled to drive in Simmons to make it 7-0.The Lady Panthers did put their first two batters aboard in the second with a lead-off single and an error, but McWhorter came back with three consecutive strikeouts to leave both stranded.Magnet Cove threatened again in the third off a single and hit batter, but a double play ended that frame.The Lady Bears tacked on five runs in the bottom of the third....
