Reeves Wins High Jump at Meet of Champions

SEARCY, Ark. - Christian Reeves of Rison High School cleared 6 feet-6 inches (6-6) in the high jump to beat state high jump champions from across the state at the 2025 Arkansas Meet of Champions last Wednesday, May 14, at Harding University in Searcy. The Meet of Champions brings together the state championship track and field winners from each classification to determine an overall winner. Reeves won the high jump at the Class 3A State Track Meet held May 6 at Prescott High School.Reeves won the Class 3A high jump title by clearing 6-4. He improved on that by two inches at the Meet of Champions by clearing 6-6. Three other athletes cleared 6-4 at the Meet of Champions to finish in a three-way tie for runner-up: Class 2A state champion Anderson Smith of Barton, Class 6A state champion Keenan Latin of Bryant, and Class 5A state champion Kenan Morris of Sylvan Hills.Stan Sadler, sports historian for Rison High School, said Reeves set a new school record with his leap of 6-6 at the Meet of Champions. He bested at least three other Rison higher jumpers in Dreyon Gray in 2002, Roger Hyatt in 1971, and Tommy Cash in 1967, who cleared heights of 6-4 to 6-5.Cash, whom Sadler said jumped barefooted, won the high jump event at the Meet of Champions in 1967.
