RISON - The Cleveland County Cutters & Strutters Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) is having a drawing for a Ruger .308 rifle to raise money to support the annual Jakes Day's youth event scheduled for Feb. 25 at the Old Turkey Farm off Mt. Elba south of Rison.
Jake's Day is an NWTF-sponsored event that encourages youth to participate in hunting, fishing and other outdoor activities. There will be activities for ages 4 through teens.
There is no cost to attend and free lunch will be provided by Rison Pharmacy.
Current vendors for the event include: AGFC with dogs and pelts, Jeff Heddon with taxidermy, UAM with forestry, and Predator Call demonstration turkey head shoot.
John Varnell, one of the organizers of the event, said the group is also accepting donations of guns, fishing rods, outdoor equipment, etc. that can be used as door prizes at the Jake's Day. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
