RISON - Carlese Johnson scored 16 points and Destiny Lea had 12 as the Rison Lady Wildcats used a balance scoring attack to cruise past the Hermitage Lady Hermits, 59-41, in a non-conference game Monday night in the Rison gym.
The Lady 'Cats knocked down six-of-seven free throw attempts in the first quarter as Rison took a 16-8 lead by the end of the opening period. The Lady Wildcats extended it to a 35-22 cushion by halftime before closing out the fourth quarter with a 124 run. The Lady Wildcats made 11 of their 14 free throws overall to shoot nearly 79 percent from the line.
In addition to Johnson and Lea scoring in double figures, R'erel Roshell had nine, Camira Crain and Layne Potter both had six, and Carlie Crain had five. Potter was a perfect six-of-six from the charity strip.
It was Rison's six victory in its past seven games. The Lady 'Cats improved to 6-3 overall and are 1-1 in 6-2Aconference action.
Rison 53, Junction City 40
RISON - Rison used a late surge to pull away from the Junction City Lady Dragons as the Lady Wildcats picked up their first 6-2A victory of the season with a 53-40 victory inside the Rison Gym.
The Lady 'Cats were up 28-23 at halftime before the Lady Dragons pulled to within 38-36 by the start of the fourth quarter. Rison held Junction City to just four points in the final period.
The last stanza of the game turned into a free throw shooting contest with Rison coming out on top. The Lady Dragons hit just two of their 10 free throw attempts in fourth quarter while the Lady 'Cats connected on four of six. Meanwhile, Alysia Walker hit a 3-pointer plus sank both of her free throw attempts to help the Lady Wildcats outscore the Lady Dragons, 154, in the final period.
Destiny Lea scored in every quarter and converted eight of 11 free throw attempts to finish with 19 points. R'erel Roshell followed with 12.
