Kingsland All-School Reunion Is Saturday

KINGSLAND - The Kingsland All-School Reunion will be held this Saturday, Feb. 24, beginning at 11 a.m. in the auditorium at Kingsland School, organizers have announced.First started in 2019, the annual event held each February was created as a homecoming of sorts for those who grew up in Kingsland and/or attended school there. About 200 people showed up for the first All School Reunion five years ago.Kingsland Mayor Sharon Crosby, who is helping organize this year's event, said there is no cost to attend and a potluck meal of soups, sandwiches and desserts will be available. In addition, Crosby said there will be a showing of a special video put together by Kingsland native Paul Abeyta and Wayne Cash with the Kingsland Heritage Center. The video will celebrate the 30-year anniversary of Johnny Cash performing his last concert at Kingsland to commemorate the opening of the new Kingsland Post Office on March 31, 1994. Congressman Bruce Westernman recently submitted legislation to have that post office named after the legendary artist.Cash, along with his wife, June Carter Cash, his son John Carter and his siblings, performed beneath a large tent that had been set up on the parking lot of the post office. Crosby said the video being shown at Saturday's reunion includes local video that was filmed at Cash's 1994 concert.Crosby said they will also be offering the original Kingsland All-School Reunion t-shirts at the reunion. While there is no charge for the shirts, she said any donations collected for the shirts will be used to buy new flags that will be put up throughout Kingsland....
