95 YEARS AGO APRIL 5, 1928 F.W. Culpepper, local timberman, was chosen mayor of Rison by a majority of 22 votes over Guy G. Williams in the city election held Tuesday. Mr. Culpepper succeeds Van McKinney. A larger vote than usual was polled, partly due to the number of women voters who took part in the election.
Little interest was taken in the city election held Tuesday at Kingsland. Hastings Marks was elected mayor to succeed T.E. Mosley, who has held the office for a number of years.
90 YEARS AGO APRIL 5, 1933 Municipal elections at Rison and Kingsland on Tuesday were mere formalities, as in each city no opposition developed and little interest was manifested in voting at either place. L.F. Williams was named mayor of Rison for a second term, while at Kingsland, John H. Williford was elected mayor. Thirty-six votes were polled at Rison; 47 at Kingsland.
Announcement is made by the newly-organized Citizens League Against Liquor that a mass meeting for those who oppose the repeal of the 18th Amendment will be held at the courthouse here Saturday afternoon. Dr. J.H. Glass, associated with the Arkansas Anti-Saloon League, spoke here Sunday morning.
Confederate pension checks, ranging from $6.25 to $25.00 were mailed Saturday to those on the roll in the county.
The Rison School District census is completed, with a total of 1,360 persons between the ages of 6 and 21 - 798 white children; 562 colored children.
