10  YEARS  AGOAUGUST  19,  2015Construction on the new Dollar General store, to be located at the corner of Hwy. 79-35 in Rison, began this week, with a projected opening this fall. It will replace the Dollar General at the north end of Main Street in the business section of town.The Kingsland City Council unanimously approved Mayor Charles Crain's recommendation Monday night to formally remove Ronnie Smith as city marshal and rely on the Cleveland County Sheriff's Department for local law enforcement. The action comes after the council unanimously approved a motion in July to abolish the city marshal's position, effective November 1, for financial reasons following several monthly budget deficits this year.Special Olympians from as far away as Fayetteville are expected to take part in what will be the first-ever Special Olympics Rodeo this Friday and Saturday at the Cleveland County Fairgrounds arena in Rison.The City of Kingsland has made an offer to buy nearly four city lots located near City Hall. Johnnie Johnson to sign off on a deal that will allow the Cleveland County Head Start program to begin construction of a new building at the Woodlawn School campus.
