Canon Cope Signs with Southern Arkansas

RISON - Rison High School senior catcher Canon Cope (center) signed a national letter of intent last Wednesday, Nov. 8, to play baseball for the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders at Magnolia. The upcoming 2024 baseball season will be the first time for Canon Cope to play for the Wildcats. He previously played for the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats, where his father, Chad Cope, was head coach. Chad Cope was named head baseball coach for Rison High School, his alma mater, at the conclusion of the 2023 baseball season last spring. Canon will be a second-generation Mulerider, following in the footsteps of his father, Chad, who was a standout infielder for Southern Arkansas after wrapping up his career as a football and baseball player at Rison. Canon is the grandson of Donald and Patsy Cope of the Staves community. His grandfather, Donald Cope, was one of the first players to be inducted into the Woodlawn High School Baseball Hall of Fame after a successful campaign for the Bears during the mid-1960's. ...
