Lady Bears' McWhorter Tosses No-Hitter

WOODLAWN - Lillie Faye McWhorter threw a no-hitter and struck out 19 as the Woodlawn Lady Bears remained perfect in 8-2A conference action with a 5-0 win over the Magnet Cove Lady Panthers Tuesday afternoon at Lady Bear Field.Magnet Cove was a game back of Woodlawn in the conference standings going into Tuesday's contest. The Lady Bears improved to 6-0 in league play and 22-4 overall while the Lady Pan-thers fell to 5-2 in conference action and 6-8 overall.Woodlawn is currently one game ahead of second-place Junction City in the 8-2A standings. The Lady Bears beat the-Lady Dragons, 4-2, on March 6 at Junction City.Lily White drew a walk to start off the bottom of the first and then scored on Kendall Tooke's ground out to give the Lady Bears a quick 1-0 lead.Woodlawn used four walks and an error to add a run in the second before McWhorter had a two-run double to make it 4-0.The Lady Bears' final run came in the fourth when Kendall Tooke doubled in Kathryn Dixon.McWhorter was basically untouchable on the mound. Magnet Cove managed just two base runners in the game, one off a two-out walk in the second and the other on an error in the sixth. Neither reached second base.Woodlawn had four hits and drew eight walks. In addition to the doubles by McWhorter and Tooke, Macy Harrison and Bay Aud both had singles.Woodlawn 8, Gurdon 5 GURDON - Woodlawn scored all eight of its runs over the final two innings as the Lady Bears rallied from a five-run deficit to knock off the Gurdon Lady Go Devils, 8-5, in an 8-2A barn burner Monday afternoon at Gurdon.The Lady Devils turned an error and a single into a run in the bottom of the first before using a walk and triple to add two more in the third, extending their lead to 3-0.
