WOODLAWN - The Woodlawn Lady Bears are off to a 3-1 start under new Head Coach Synthia English after edging Class 4A Bauxite in the season opener, falling to England on the road, and then blowing out Carlisle at home and Hampton on the road.
In a back-and-forth game the entire contest, the Lady Bears managed to surge ahead late to get past the Bauxite Lady Miners, 50-46, in the season opener at home on Nov. 6. Lillie Faye McWhorter had 12 for Woodlawn followed by Jaci Hoyt with 11.
Last Tuesday, Nov. 7, Woodlawn dropped its first road game of the year in a high-scoring affair at England, 77-60. Kathryn Dixon had 19 to lead the Lady Bears followed by Anna Fitzgibbon and Jaci Hoyt with 11 apiece.
The Lady Bears bounced back from that loss with a 59-24 victory over Carlisle in the Woodlawn Gym on Monday, Nov. 13. Woodlawn had three players in double figures in that game with Sarah Melhorn finishing with 12 while Jaci Hoyt and Faith Hisaw each had 10.
McWhorter had 13 points and 12 rebounds as the Lady Bears knocked off Hamtpon on the road Tuesday, Nov. 14, by a 6545 margin. Fitzgibbon also had 13 points for Woodlawn.
