Lady 'Cats Pound Gurdon

RISON - Nine of Rison's 19 hits went for extra bases as the Lady Wildcats closed out their 2023 season with 15-6 romp over the Gurdon Lady Go Devils last Friday afternoon in an 82A conference game at Lady Wildcat Field. Rison finished the season with a 7-11 record overall and a 3-9 mark in league action. The Lady Wildcats finished sixth in the conference. Rison trailed by as many as five runs early before drawing even in the third and pulling away late. Gurdon's two-out double plated two runs in the top of the first as the Lady Devils went up 2-0. Carlese Johnson had fielder's choice in the bottom of the first that scored Layne Potter to make it 2-1. The Lady Devils used a walk, two singles, a double and a hit batter to score four more runs in the second to make 6-1. Again, the Lady 'Cats answered in the bottom of the frame, using a one-out triple by Amelia Stewart to set up Carlie Crain's RBI on a ground out. Potter then smashed a double before scoring on Jade Keaton's single and Josey Edwards followed with another double to cut it to a 6-4 deficit. Rison tied it with a two-out single by Stewart and a double by Potter making it a 6-6 game. The Lady Wildcats took their first lead, 7-6, when Johnson singled with two out in the fourth and Brenna Taylor brought her home with a double. Crain had an RBI double in the fifth and Edwards later followed with a single to drove two runs in extend Rison's lead to 10-6. The Lady 'Cats put the game away with five more runs in the sixth. Johnson doubled to start the inning before scoring on an error off Taylor's fly ball. Victoria James followed with a single to drove in Taylor, making it 12-6. After a fly ball for the first out, Crain singled and Potter drove in a run with a hit to center. Keaton then doubled to score another run and Edwards had another double to make it 15-6.
