MONTICELLO - Rison's Noah Matheson nearly threw a no-hitter Tuesday as the Rison Wildcats completed a regular sweep of the Drew Central Pirates with a 4-1 win Tuesday at Monticello.Rison moved to 6-0 to remain perfect in 8-3A play. The Wildcats are 10-3 overall.They remain a game ahead of the DeWitt Dragons in the 8-3A standings. Rison defeated De-Witt, 6-2, in their first meeting March 21 at DeWitt. The two teams are scheduled to square off at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, at Wildcat Field.Matheson was just two outs away from completing a no-hitter when Drew Central broke it up with a one-out single in the bottom of the seventh. Matheson then struck out the next two batters to finish the game.It was one of the sophomore right-hander's best outings this season as he did not give up a walk and struck out seven. Matheson worked much of the game with a comfortable lead as Rison scored all four of its runs in the second inning.Ayden Laws and James Jacobs started the second with back-toback singles. After a strikeout for the first out, Brayden Terry drew a walk to load the bases, and Thomas Wilson followed with a single to left that scored the game's first two runs.Terry then scored on a dropped third strike, and Lawson Kidd had a single that drove in Wilson to make it 4-0.Drew Central scored its only run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth after the lead-off batter reached on an error.Rison had seven hits against the Pirates with Jacobs going 2-for-3.
