McWhorter's No Hitter, Two HRs Lead Lady Bears Past Lady 'Cats

RISON - Lillie Faye McWhorter pitched a no-hitter and smashed two of Woodlawn's four homeruns as the Lady Bears rolled by the Rison Lady Wildcats, 15-0, in six innings last Thursday at Lady Wildcat Field. This 8-2A conference game was a far cry from the first time these two Cleveland County rivals met as Woodlawn held on at home for a 1-0 victory. In this second match-up, Woodlawn grabbed an early lead and never looked back. McWhorter's first homerun came with two out in the top of the first as she gave Woodlawn a quick 2-0 advantage. Jaci Hoyt then had a two-out RBI double in the second before Kathryn Dixon tacked on a couple more with a two-run single, putting the Lady Bears up 5-0 after two frames. Woodlawn did not score again until the fifth when Kaitlyn Webb delivered a three-run homerun to make it 8-0. The Lady Bears scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to invoke the 10-run rule. After singles by Lily White and Hoyt started the inning, Dixon drew a walk to load the bases. Anna Fitzgibbon followed with a single that drove in two runs and McWhorter followed with two-run shot over the centerfield fence to make it 13-0. Maci Harrison then walked before Kendall Tooke hammered the Lady Bears' fourth homerun to make it 15-0. Rison struggled to get anything going with McWhorter inside the circle. The Lady 'Cats had three baserunners in the game, getting lead-off walks to start the second and sixth innings, and then Woodlawn had an error in the sixth. McWhorter had five strikeouts. Woodlawn finished with 15 hits with Hoyt going 3-for-5 to lead the way. Dixon, Fitzgibbon, McWhorter, Webb and White all had two hits apiece. Tooke and Erin West also had hits. McWhorter finished with four RBIs while Webb drove in three runs and Dixon, Fitzgibbon and Tooke had two RBIs apeice. Rison used three pitchers in the game.
