WOODLAWN - Jude Roberts scored 45 points to lead Woodlawn to a 64-54 win over the Smackover Buckaroos in the Bears’ 2024-25 season opener last Tuesday inside the Woodlawn Gym.Woodlawn got off to a strong start, leading 19-9 by the end of the opening period. Smackover was able to cut it to six, 24-18, by halftime after Bears Coach Logan Adair rested his starters for five minutes in the second quarter.The Bears were able to push the lead back to double digits by the end of the third, taking a 44-31 into the final period.Adair said 15 players participated in the game, which he described as “very sloppy.” He attributed that to playing so many in the game. Garrett Weatherford, a starting guard who is transitioning from football to basketball, played just 16 minutes in the opener while Jake Allred, another starter, did not play.Roberts had the Bears’ only 3-pointer in tallying up his 45 points. He was 10-of-18 at the free throw line.Adair said the 45 points from Roberts is the most he has seen since Cole Reynolds put up 44 in 2019. Adair is entering his 10th season in guiding the Woodlawn basketball program.Weatherford followed Roberts with nine points. Woodlawn 90, Hermitage 65WOODLAWN - All five starters scored in double figures as the Woodlawn Bears started off hot and never cooled off in a 90-65 blowout of the Hermitage Hermits last Friday night in the Woodlawn Gym.Both teams were red hot from behind the arch as both the Bears and Hermits knocked down 10 3-pointers apiece in the game. Woodlawn Coach Logan Adair said three freshmen accounted for six of Hermitage’s long-range baskets.The torrid pace started early as Woodlawn led 25-19 by the end of the first quarter before pulling out to a 50-34 lead by halftime.
