WOODLAWN - Woodlawn High School has hired a new girls basketball coach while the search for a new football coach continues.The Woodlawn School Board approved hiring Autumn Lem to become the new head girls basketball coach after Synthia English resigned to accept a position as an assistant coach with the girls basketball program at Class 5A Greenwood High School.English is still on staff until the end of the school year. Lem, like English, will also serve as an assistant coach for the girls softball program.English was hired two years ago, and has lead the Lady Bears to back-to-back regional tournament berths. Woodlawn finished 18-14 this past season and were 18-16 for the 2023-24 season, advancing to the state tournament.Lem, a Woodlawn High School graduate, is currently finishing up her contract as an assistant coach at Class 6A Springdale Har-Ber. Woodlawn High School Principal T.J. Hill said Lem has also worked at Malvern, Sheridan and Fort Smith Northside high schools.Hill said Lem has also served as a head coach in cheerleading during her career.Football CoachMeanwhile, Hill said they are continuing their search for a new head football coach after Zach Meyer stepped down to become the new Woodlawn Elementary principal starting with the 2025-26 school year.The Woodlawn School Board approved hiring White Hall assistant football coach Hunter Davis as the new head football coach during its April meeting.
