About 50 Attend Meeting To Address CCSD's Request for 6-Mill Tax Increase
RISON - Superintendent Davy King and the Cleveland County School Board held its second community meeting on the proposed 6-mill tax increase to fund construction of a new gym Monday evening inside the Rison gymnasium.The third and final community meeting on the millage will be held at 6:30 p.m. this Monday, Oct. 27, at the Kingsland School auditorium.King was a special guest on the Herald's Free Range Conversations podcast this week to provide details about the millage and how it would support the construction of a new gym at the Rison School campus and possibly help make improvements to Rison Elementary. In September, the Cleveland County School Board unanimously approved a resolution to ask voters in the Cleveland County School District to approve a 6-mill tax increase that will generate about $12 million in construction funds to help build a new gym. The election will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at three polling sites within the school district: the New Edinburg Community Center, Kingsland Missionary Baptist Church and the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building in Rison. Early voting will be available from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, through Friday, Nov. 14, and on Monday, Nov. 17. All early voting will take place at the Hall-Morgan Veterans Building located at 404 Sycamore Street across from the courthouse in Rison.Monday was the second community meeting held on the millage with the first taking place Oct. 6 at the New Edinburg Community Center.King gave a digital slide presentation providing some background information about the millage and the gym at the start of the meeting.
