Flyover Kicks Off July 4th Festivities
RISON - Festivities commemorating the nation’s 250th anniversary will kick off this week as the Arkansas National Guard will conduct a flyover of military aircraft this Tuesday, June 30, in the skies over Rison.
The Arkansas National Guard announced it is hosting a statewide “Fly Over Arkansas” tour from Monday, June 29, through Thursday July 2, as part of the America 250 celebration marking 250 years of U.S. independence.
The flyover will include one of two aircraft: UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters, a versatile tactical transport aircraft; or C-130 Hercules, heavy-lifting cargo planes with a strong Arkansas military heritage through the Little Rock Air Force Base.
Tuesday’s flyover will take in parts of central and southern Arkansas. Rison is one of 31 cities listed for the flyover that day along with Sheridan, Fordyce, Monticello, Star City and Pine Bluff in the immediate region.
The flyovers begin this Monday, June 29, over Southwest Arkansas and will include Benton, Hot Springs, Mena, Texarkana, Hope, Prescott, Nashville, Murfreesboro, Arkadelphia and Malvern.
Tuesday’s flyover on June 30 will take in Central and Southern Arkansas including Downtown Little Rock, Camden, El Dorado, Conway, Russellville, Fort Smith and Van Buren.
Wednesday’s flyover on July 1 will include Northeast and North-Central Arkansas, including Beebe, Searcy, Heber Springs, Batesville, Mountain View, Melbourne, Ash Flat, Mountain Home, Newport, Jonesboro, Paragould, Blytheville, Marion, Helena and Stuttgart.
The final flyover day will be Thursday, July 2,over Northwest Arkansas including Clinton, Leslie, Marshall, Yellville, Berryville, Eureka Springs, Bentonville, Springdale, Fayetteville, Huntsville, Harrison and Jasper.
Specific times and routes as to when the flyovers will take place will be announced closer to the event through the Arkansas National Guard and the “Flyover Arkansas” event page on Facebook.
