RISON - Cleveland County Assessor Barbara Reaves has announced that she will be retiring from office once she completes here current term that ends Dec. 31, 2026.Reaves is the second county official that has announced intentions to retire at the end of their current term. Cleveland County Sheriff Jack Rodgers said last week that will be retiring at the end of his current term as well.All county-wide officials like assessor, sheriff, county judge, county clerk, etc. serve four-year terms.Reaves notified the Herald of her intentions in an email last Friday, May 2. She has worked in the assessor’s office since 2013, first serving as a deputy assessor under former assessor Donna Sims. After five years in that position, Reaves ran for the office after Sims decided not to see re-election after her term expired in 2018. Reaves officially took over as county assessor on Jan. 1, 2019.“I turned 67 this year and decided that it was time to go,” Reaves said in her email. “I have enjoyed working for the people of Cleveland County.”The job of county assessor is to locate, value, and maintain records of all taxable real and personal property within the county. ...
