Bears Blank JC; Extend 8-2A Lead

JUNCTION CITY - Owen Stover, Jase Bishop and Grant Cowart combined to throw a two-hitter Tuesday as the Woodlawn Bears blanked the Junction City Dragons, 11-0, in five innings at Junction City. While Woodlawn scored nine of its runs over the first two innings, the Dragons struggled to get baserunners aboard. Stover started the game and got the win. He did not give up a hit and walked just one while striking out five over two innings. Bishop pitched the next two frames, allowing one hit and no walks while recording five strikeouts. Cowart gave up a hit and a walk in closing out the fifth. Woodlawn got off a quick start as Brayden Jones singled to ope n the open the top of the first and Garrett Weatherford then drew a walk. Both scored then off an error on Stover's sacrifice, and a follow-up double by Jayden Wilmoth and a single by Austin Howard extended Woodlawn's lead to 4-0 before a double play retired the side. The Bears added to that lead in the second by scoring five runs, all coming with two out. After the first two batters went down on a pop up and a strikeout, Jones drew a walk, stole second and then scored on Weatherford's hit to right. Stover was then hit by a pitch to put two aboard, and Wilmoth brought both home with a double. Dylan Butler then drilled a triple to center scoring Wilmoth's courtesy runner, Mason Edmonds, and Butler then scored on a passed ball to make it 9-0. An RBI single by Stover in fourth and Ethan Oliver scoring a passed ball in the fifth ended the game by the 10-run rule with an 11-0 final. Four the Bears' nine hits in the gam went for extra bases with Butler hitting a triple, Wilmoth two doubles and Oliver one. Stover and Wilmoth both finished with three RBIs each.
