Burning Road Grader Detours Traffic at Kingsland

KINGSLAND - Firefighters from the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department work to extinguish the flames from a road grader that caught fire Friday morning, June 23, along Hwy. 79 at Kingsland. County Judge Jimmy Cummings confirmed that the grader belonged to the Cleveland County Road Department. Cummings said the fire was caused by an apparent leak to the hydraulic system, noting that there was a trail of hydraulic fluid about 250 yards long could be seen behind the grader. He said the 2008 model grader was the road department’s oldest grader but it was one of the department’s best for working roads. C ummings said the grader was insured but he does not know what the payoff will bill considering depreciation. The fire did force law enforcement to temporarily close Hwy. 79 in both directions while the fire was extinguished and again when it was picked up by a wrecker, Cummings said.  ...
