CCSB Approves Land Sale at Kingsland

RISON - The Cleveland County School Board approved the sale of 1.1 acres of land at the Kingsland School campus Monday night that will allow for the construction a new Dollar General store there. Meanwhile, Superintendent Craig Dupuy provided the school board will some additional information regarding how much construction money would be generated with each mill should the board decide to ask for additional mills in 2023. Those issues and others were addressed during the board's regular monthly meeting Mon-day night. Charlie Montgomery of Montgomery Southern Development of Greenwood, Miss., approached the school board about buying 1.1 acres of land owned by the school district that is located on the other side of Hwy. 189 from the school campus. The land is question is part of a parcel of land where the former bus barn is located. Montgomery explained that he was representing Pine Belt Development, which is a group that buys land and builds the stores for Dollar General throughout the region. He explained that Pine Belt had already bought property at the location with Hwy. 79 frontage at the southwest corner of the Hwy. 189 intersection, but the Arkansas Department of Transportation would not allow a Hwy. 79 entrance to the business due the configuration of the intersection. On that note, he said they needed to buy additional land along Hwy. 189 to make the store entrance there. Typically, Montgomery said they get two appraisals on the property value and offer the owner the average of those two. He said the two appraisals on the Kingsland School property came in at $31,000 and $32,000, making the offer price $31,500. The board accepted the offer through two motions: one accepting Dupuy's recommendation to pursue the sale, and another approving a resolution stipulating the details of the sale itself.
