RISON - Keden Shrum is the new minister for the Rison Church of Christ, succeeding Lanis Lindsey, who retired in early June.
Bom in Mineral Wells, Texas, Shrum spent most of his life in Oklahoma as his father, also a Church of Christ minister, served in churches in Texas, Arizona and Oklahoma.
Shrum has worked in the oil fields of Oklahoma, Texas and New Mexico, and has also spent time in law enforcement and ranching. He was a certified Oklahoma peace officer through the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training. He also received his Firefighter I training through Oklahoma State University, and holds a Bachelor of Biblical Studies in Preaching and Ministry.
Before coming to Rison, Shrum spent time as a ranch manager for Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt on his ranch outside of Tulsa.
A recent graduate of Brown Trail School of Preaching in Bedford, Texas, Shrum has spoken on a lectureship and for congregations in Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Missouri, Georgia, Illinois and Arkansas.
Before attending Brown Trail School of Preaching, he served as the interim minister for the Coweta, Okla., congregation and as an associate minister with the Porter Church of Christ in Oklahoma.
Keden and his wife, Chandra, an Oklahoma native, will be celebrating 20 years of marriage on Nov. 30. They have one daughter, Ragan, who is a sophomore at Rison High School this year.
Shrum, who officially began his ministry at Rison Church of Christ on June 12, said this is his first full-time ministry. He said he and his family are thankful to be a part of the Rison congregation and look forward to engaging in the work of the Lord alongside the members of the church.
One outreach that Shrum has already started since arriving at Rison is the “House to House, Heart to Heart” mail-out the church is sending to residents in and around Rison and Kingsland on a monthly basis.
