Dedication Date ‘In Near Future’ For Kingsland Post Office

RISON - The organizer of an effort to name the Kingsland Post Office after country music legend and Kingsland native Johnny Cash said he expects there will be an announcement “in the near future” about a dedication ceremony for the renaming.Wayne Cash of the Woodlawn area spearheaded the effort to have the Kingsland Post Office named after his distant relative.  Johnny Cash held a concert there in March 1994 to dedicate Kingsland’s new post office. It was his last public appearance in Cleveland County.Since a Post Office is considered a federal building, any name placed on the building must be approved by the U.S. Congress and the president. Arkansas Fourth District Congressman Bruce Westerman presented the legislation to rename the building the “Kingsland ‘Johnny Cash’ Post Office.”His bill was  was approved by the U.S. House of Representatives last June and then by the  U.S. Senate in December.
