RISON - Last Tuesday the Cleveland County FCS Agent Danielle Watson and Food Preservation Specialist Agent Amber Hairston, FCS agent in Ashley County hosted a workshop in Rison.
During this session participants learned about the different methods of drying. Drying is one of the oldest methods of preserving foods for later use. Drying is simple, safe and easy to learn when following our reliable research-based recommendations. Participants dried meat, vegetables, fruit, and made mango fruit leather. All recipes came from the USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning and the National Center for Home Food Preservation. This book can also be purchased at the Cleveland County Extension Office at 501 East Magnolia Street.
Special guests for this workshop included Dr. Amanda Philyaw Perez, Associate Professor; David Hill, Program Associate; and Kameron Riley, 2023 UofA Intern with the Division of Agriculture Share Grounds Project.
'Thank you to everyone that attended the workshop,' said Watson. If you are interested in learning more about food preservation, feel free to contact the Cleveland County Extension Office at (870) 325-6321 or dwatson@uada.edu for the next educational workshop.
