RISON - Deputy Assessor Wendy McCallister Grice has announced her intentions to run for Cleveland County tax assessor in the 2026 Republican primary.Grice is the first candidate to announce for the position following Assessor Barbara Reaves’ announcement last week that she intends to retire and seek re-election. Reaves said she will be stepping away when her current term ends Dec. 31, 2026.“I was born and raised right here in Cleveland County and truly believe there’s no better place to call home,” Grice said in her announcement. “I’m a 1993 graduate of Kingsland High School, a proud mother of two wonderful adult children, and a grandmother to a beautiful granddaughter who is the light of my life.”Grice has served as deputy assessor for nearly seven years. “During that time, I’ve developed a deep understanding of the responsibilities that come with this role and have loved every opportunity to serve the citizens of our county,” she said.Through her duties with the assessor’s office, Grice said she has continued her education in property valuation and Geographic Information System (GIS)parcel mapping by attending several specialized courses. “With the knowledge and experience I’ve gained, I am committed to ensuring that the assessor’s office operates with accuracy, efficiency, and integrity,” she said.“I care deeply about the people of Cleveland County, and I will work hard every day to serve you with honesty and dedication,” Grice said.Candidates for the 2026 election can officially file for their respective offices Nov. 3-12, 2025.
