KINGSLAND - After approving it earlier with a simple voice vote, the Kingsland City Council made it official last week when it approved an ordinance raising the pay for city council members.During the February city council meeting, the city’s business manage, Wendy James, told the council that she and former Mayor Sharon Crosby had looked at raising the pay for city council members from $100 to $125 month. James said there was enough money in the budget to give the raises without having to make any major adjustment. The council unanimously approved a motion to do so. However, during the March city council meeting, City Attorney Thomas Burns said the pay raises needed to be made through a formal ordinance, not a simple vote on a motio. He crafted an ordinance that was approved during last Thursday’s council meeting.In addition, Mayor Karen Wiscaver said there was a discussion on the city’s ongoing effort to annex the Dollar General. While a portion the store’s parking lot is within the city limits, the store building itself is not.Kelly Taylor, who helped recruit Dollar General to Kingsland, approached the council about a form from the company that the city could complete giving the benefits of moving the store into the city limits.City Attorney Thomas Burns, according to Wiscaver, said he preferred taking a different approach and would be bringing some proposals to the city.Wiscaver said no action was taken on the matter, and that Burns will bringing some annexation proposals to the city....
