Kingsland Council To Fill Ward 2 Seat

KINGSLAND - A vacant seat on the Kingsland City Council will likely be addressed when it meets at 6 p.m. this Thursday, June 26, at Kingsland City Hall.The Kingsland City Council accepted the resignation of Ward 2, Position 1 council member Sandra Laws during its last regular meeting held May 29. Laws was not at that meeting.State law requires the remaining city council members to appoint someone by a majority vote to fill the unexpired term of the city council member who resigned. The appointee must reside within Ward 2 to be eligible.Whoever is selected will serve through Dec. 31, 2026.Kingsland Mayor Karen Wiscaver said the city council could also take up the matter of increasing the water connection fee for new customers. The council decided to table the matter after a suggestion was made to raise it to $500.Betty Graham, manager for the Kingsland Water Office, said the current connection of $200  is not enough to cover the delinquent water bills that some customers leave behind when they move out of the residence. ...
