RISON - The Kingsland City Council approved two ordinances Monday night that establish a financial administrator/secretary position for the city and outlines the duties of an elected city treasurer/ recorder.
Mayor Sharon Crosby said one ordinance establishes the creation of a financial administrator/secretary position, which is essentially a non-elected part-time job, while the other sets out the duties of the city treasurer/recorder, which is an elected position that is currently vacant. Wendy James is currently serving as the city's financial administrator/secretary, and is covering the treasurer/recorder's duties during city council meetings.
The ordinance for the financial administrator/recorder position approved by the Kingsland City Council sets a salary of $550 per month for the job, and makes the position responsible for the following duties:
Prepare agendas and public notices for all city council meetings
Attend all city council meetings
Take and prepare minutes at the monthly and/or special city council meetings
Preserve accurate records, laws, resolutions, ordinances, proclamations, and actions of the city council
Compile and prepare council agenda materials for distribution
Prepare ordinances and resolutions in coordination with city law firm
Serve as the general bookkeeper
Maintain all city contracts and agreements
Maintain custody of the city seal and attest on official documents
Responsible for releasing public information in accordance with the law Receives petitions, referendums, and applications for office, and verifies applications and petitions on behalf of the city
Prepares correspondence for the city secretary's office, the mayor and council as required
Collect monies paid to the city
