Kingsland Hires Office Manager; Discusses for 2023 City Budget

KINGSLAND - The Kingsland City Council unanimously approved hiring Wendy James to the part-time position of city office manager Tuesday night while leaving the elected recorder/treasurer position vacant. Meanwhile, Mayor Sharon Crosby asked the various city departments represented at Tuesday night's city council meeting what they may need in the upcoming year before the council convened for the annual city budget meeting at the conclusion of the regular monthly council meeting. The Kingsland City Council formally accepted the resigna-tion of former city recorder/treasurer Tleatha "Tootie" Spencer during its October meeting. While she was the elected as recorder/treasurer, Spencer also oversaw Kingsland's bookkeeping duties in what was essentially an office manager position. Crosby said she offered the parttime office manager position to Spencer after her resignation, but she declined. During Tuesday night's meeting, Crosby said she had visited with some people about becoming the city recorder/treasurer, but no one living inside the city limits was interested. She told the council that she happened to run into James while visiting a friend, and asked James, who lives outside the city, if she would be interested in serving as the part-time officer manager that pays $550 per month. She said James agreed to take the position. James was at Tuesday night's meeting when the council unanimously approved her for the job. She will formally begin this Thursday, Dec. 1. During that discussion, James told the council that she is used to working with budgets, pointing out that she is currently overseeing a budget of more than $1 million in federal funds at her current job.
