KINGSLAND - A train/automobile accident resulted in one fatality last Friday, Feb. 10 at the Maple Street crossing in Kingsland, according to local officials.
While the accident remains under investigation with the Arkansas State Police, Sgt. Jack Young confirmed the accident was reported at 11:35 a.m. Friday morning.
According to Cleveland County Coroner Chuck Valentine, Cheyenne Carter, 20, of Kingsland was pronounced dead at 12:41 p.m. at the scene.
Valentine said Carter's car was crossing the track headed south, and was struck in the driver's side by the southbound train headed toward Fordyce. He said the train knocked the car about 100 yards down the track.
Arkansas State Police is expected to release its report on the accident this week.
This is the second accident to occur at the Maple Street crossing at Kingsland in less than two years. A 63-year-old Kingsland woman, Nahdyne R. Estes, died Dec. 17, 2021 when her mini van was struck by a train.
The railroad crossing is equipped with lights and crossing arms.
