RISON - Rickey Spencer of Kingsland, a former member of both the Kingsland and Cleveland County School Boards, informed the Herald last Friday that he intends to run for Cleveland County Judge in the Republican primary. He said he will release a formal announcement later.Spencer is the third candidate to announce his intentions to run for the vacant county judge’s position. Stephen McClellan of New Edinburg and Rosemary Sinclair of the Staves community have announced their intentions to file as county judge candidates in the Republican primary as well.The position is vacant following the Aug. 28 passing of the late County Judge Jimmy Cummings. Cleveland County Road Department foreman Jimmy Dale Adair was appointed by the quorum court to complete Cummings’ term. state law prohibits appointments within county government from running for the position for which they are appointed.The week-long filing period for candidates to formally file for the 2026 primary election begins at noon Monday, Nov. 3.
