RISON - The Cleveland County Republican Committee has announced that its Political Forum originally scheduled for this week has been moved to 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, in the Family Life Center at Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church, 2230 Hwy. 35 North at Rison.The committee had originally scheduled the forum to be held Tuesday, Jan. 27, with a tentative back-up date of Thursday, Jan. 29. However, due to icy road conditions, the committee decided on Monday to postpone the event to next Thursday, Feb. 5.Each of the four candidates running for Cleveland County Judge and the three candidates running for Cleveland County Sheriff in the Republican primary election have been invited to participate. Since there are no other candidates running for either of the offices, the winner of the Republican primary will be unopposed in the November general election.Pat Berry, chairman of the Cleveland County Republican Party, sponsor of the event, said the forum is open to the public and he encourages all interested parties to attend.The Cleveland County Herald is planning to live stream the forum over its Facebook page, and will also film the forum to make it available on its website at www.clevelandcountyherald. com The candidates for Cleveland County Judge are Jim Houston of the Rye community, Stephen McClellan of New Edinburg, Rosemary Sinclair of the Staves community, and Rickey Spencer of Kingsland.The candidates for sheriff are Vance "Lee" Freeman and Keden Shrum, both of Rison, and Brad Young of the Rowell community.Berry noted that the event is a forum rather than a debate. Each saideach candidate will have the opportunity to respond to the same question in each round.
